Spiritual Warfare: The Witness of the Blood
A. The Three Witnesses
1 1 John 5:8 There are three that bare witness on earth, the water, the blood and the Spirit
B. The Witness of the Blood
1 Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man out of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life – and man became a living being.
C. There is LIFE in the blood
1 Hebrews 9:22 …without the shedding of blood there is no remission
D. Only Blood can ATONE
1 Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls…
i. The blood has a significance throughout the entire Bible.
ii. After Adam & Eve sinned, they attempted to cover themselves. But man could not cover himself, God had to do this. So, God shed the blood of an animal to provide a covering.
iii. It took blood to truly atoning (cover) sin.
iv. Cain knew this but decided to worship God his way and not use the atoning factor of the blood.
v. From the garden of Eden, God taught that it took blood to atone.
2 John 6:54 …whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life.
E. Because the Blood of Jesus is alive…

It Redeems
i. 1 Peter 1:17-19 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
ii. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
iii. Revelation 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,
iv. Hebrews 9:12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption
v. Revelation 5:9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood…
2 It will cleanse you
i. Hebrews 13:12 Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate.
ii. Hebrews 9:14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
3 It will keep you clean
i. 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
4 It releases forgiveness into your life
i. Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
5 It provides a pathway
i. Hebrews 10:19-22 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
ii. Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
6 It delivers
i. Colossians 1:12-14 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
7 It makes you complete
i. Hebrews 13:20-21 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
8 It speaks
i. Hebrews 12:22-24 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.
ii. Genesis 4:10 And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.
9 It purchased you
i. Acts 20:28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
10 It heals
i. Isaiah 53:4-5 Surely, He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed
ii. 1 Peter 2:24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.
11 It protects
i. Exodus 12:13 & 23 Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt… 1
2 It destroys the works of the devil
i. Hebrews 2:14 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
ii. 1 John 3:8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
13 The work of the Blood is eternal
i. Hebrews 7:26-27 For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.
F. Because the Blood of Jesus is alive it is
1 applied by Father God
i. Salvation was planned by God from the foundation of the earth.
ii. God the Father gave His only son to us.
iii. God provided the blood and offered the sacrifice that applied to the human race.
2 applied by you
i. When you take communion, you apply the blood into your life and soul.
ii. When ministering to people you apply it as Holy Spirit leads.
iii. We should always encourage people that there is nothing that cannot be ministered to and defeated when we apply the blood of Christ.
G. Summary of what the blood does:
